Earlier in September I got let go from my full time job. It was a little bit of a shock but I was already planning an exit strategy of my own. I guess the universe thought my timeline was a little too slow and conservative. You just gotta roll with it and take it as it comes. Instead of looking at the things I've lost I am going to look at the opportunities I gain.

Now I have more free time to grow my many side gigs into a full time jobs. The first one is an custom event design business with my best friend Betsey. We are putting our two heads together with over 20 years of event experience between us both to make peoples events special. We look forward to crafting our clients handmade events. We are also looking forward to having the final decision over the jobs we take and the clients we work with. We are in the thick of planning stages right now. I'll be sure to post more info as it becomes available.
I recently went out to work for Goodspeed Musicals in East Haddam, Connecticut. They were my first job after I graduated from Undergrad. The work in the shop was easy and didn't take up too much brain space and was at a slower pace than I'm used to. I got to reconnect with some old friends and made some new ones. It is a beautiful time of year to spend some time out east. All of the colors in the trees are so stunning. I got to do a little hiking and antiquing, It was time I needed to rest, and escape Chicago for a couple of weeks. I now am refreshed and happy to be back in the city with my friends and family.
I have also recently become an Independent Consultant with Arbonne. I went to a facial party hosted by a friend of mine and then signed up for a non-committal coffee date with the consultant who led the party. Sara, the consultant, let me know more about the business of direct sales and network marketing with Arbonne and I saw it as a way to get financial security while I worked on the events business with Betsey. I am in my third month now and though it is slow on the upstart I have a really great support system that want to help me succeed. I am super fortunate to have found a group of committed, motivated people and an amazing product to sell. If you are looking for an amazing way to change your life, Arbonne might be the opportunity for you. Feel free to pick my brain.
Another added bonus is that I have more time to work on my fine art pieces. With my old job, I was always worn out and didn't have the headspace to even think creatively for myself. Now I have more creative energy that I am using for my own work. My goal for the next two months is to get enough pieces for a series so I can shop my work around to local coffee shops and cafes for display.
I also have more time to invest with Our Fair City which makes me really happy. We won our second Silver Mark Time Award and we had a super successful run at Chicago's Fringe Festival. We just wrapped Season Four today and we have our initial design meeting for the Launch Party for Season Five this weekend. I took a look at our kickstarter video from 2011 today and it's really amazing to see how far we've come as a group. I can't wait to see how far we go.
So life has its ups and its downs. All I can do is keep my head up, be as kind as I can, and never stop trying. It may be a tough place for me now, but it'll make a great story later. Thanks for reading!
