Got confirmation today that I will be leading the Art Direction of the third annual Beelzebub. The event this year centers around the death and funeral of Beelzebub. We get to build some creepy items for the funeral procession and celebration. I've already been in contact with a super cool puppet maker, Makena Levine and my good friend and master of the macabre, Deb Lindell. These two lovely ladies along with a crew of volunteers will help me transform a warehouse on 35th and Racine into a creepy cave of wonders.
Wow, it has been a super busy October so far! When I first got back from Connecticut I was thrown into doing the Art Direction for Collaboraction's Fashion Aquarium as a part of our inaugural Fashion Mash. Since our new space has these two beautiful windows that give you a glance into our world an aquarium was the logical leap. All in all Fashion Mash was a great success. We had an awesome First Friday celebration at the Flat Iron and then we took our Fashion Show featuring Wicker Park boutiques to Double Door and then our after party was at Debonair. Fun times with fun people.
Beggar's Banquet was this past weekend, this is Collaboraction's big Gala. It was loosely based off of 1001 and Ali Baba and the 40 thieves. I got to do the Art Direction for this guy as well! I got to buy all of this fabric in beautiful plum and brilliant red colors. Of course not forgetting Collabo orange. I would have loved just to have a little more fabric to flush everything out a little more but you live you learn. Everyone had a great time and the boys of The Ordeal (Miles and Misha) were spinning up a storm thus getting the dance floor in a tizzy. Thanks to all of my volunteers that helped make that an Arabian wonderland.
Reefer Madness loads in TODAY! so very excited. I've got to make sure lumber shows up today at noon. But other than that we are on our way to Reefer Madness! This tech process happens in 3 days. We load in hang and focus today, and paint and refocus the next two days and then we open. Fast and furious
