I found out this past week that Collaboraction has invited 15 new company members including me! I'm really happy to have found such a great artistic home that wants to help me grow as an artist as I help them flourish as a company.
So I am nearing the open of Bailiwick's second show this summer "Aida". John Holt is the scenic designer and the concept of the show is that it for the most part scenically stays in the world of the Egyptian wing in a museum. Some of the pieces transform to serve other purposes. The walls are a deep, rich shade of ocher and the floor is terrazzo-like with gold specks. There are also two Egyptian pillars that will be carved out of foam! Pictures are soon to come!
I also worked on their other show "Fucking Men". The set is comprised of this wall of wood slats stained and 5 beautifully constructed pieces of furniture. There are two twin sized bed when put together make a larger bed, two benches and one table. I got to pull out some rusty furniture finishing skills which was cool.
This week we will have our first meeting for Reefer Madness. I'm very excited. I will be working with Will Panek (Director for And Then They Came For Me) and Austin Shapley (Lighting Designer). We will be producing this production at the Viaduct theatre at Belmont and Western. We mounted this production in college and I was only the scenic artist, I'm really stoked to take a stab at the design challenges myself. We go up in October, look forward to more updates and possibly research soon!
Previews start tomorrow! I'm really pleased at how my first sketchbook experience is shaping up. I've seen some really funny, beautiful, touching, and striking pieces come to life in this space I helped create. If you get a chance come and see some happening theatre @ the Chopin Theatre starting tomorrow! If you use the code 144 you can get $5.00 off of your ticket!
So it begins! We started load in yesterday at the Chopin Theatre and started the crazy train that is sketchbook! It's really amazing to see how the elastic in worklight is already so visually dynamic. I'm really excited to start staging rehearsals and see how our actors play in the space we've created. Insiders Entertainment has been hard at work installing the curved staircase and the yards upon yards upon yards of elastic all the while Austin, Liviu, and Miles and our amazing interns are loading in their equipment.
It's been really crazy running around getting all of the props together for these very different shows. I'm so glad I have Deb Lindell to share the props responsibilties! It's been such a fun time, eventhough at times the quest for the perfect table will drive you insane.
ALSO the Dome of DOOM is making a return, those of you who missed your chance to dance it out to the championship last time don't let this chance pass you by!
If you are interested in seeing this spectacular festival of 19 plays and extra programing head over to collaboraction's website and use coupon code 144 for $5 off of tickets!
Pictures to be posted SOON!
