In June of 2017, I took the stage for the first time at an open mic at an outdoor event. The mid-day crowd was drunk, tired and barely paid any attention to me. To some that would have been discouraging., Not for me. I made the choice to do things in my life that pull me from my comfort zone and a random open mic in the middle of the day was way out there for me. After that, I was hooked.
A common theme I've heard from comedians and artists alike, all you have to do to get good at anything is practice mindfully A LOT. With that in mind, I created a personal challenge for 2018. It is my goal to perform at 150 times in 2018. 150 was a big enough number where it seemed almost impossible. 100 seemed too doable, 125 didn't really give me the jitters but 150 made me feel like I really had to work for it to make it happen. You can follow my progress through the hashtag #150Stages. As of the writing, I have almost hit 50 shows. It feels really good to get up multiple times during the week and practice my craft.
